Deputy Director Of Content

The JB for Governor Campaign is seeking a Deputy Director of Content for the 2026 election cycle to lead the campaign's digital content operation. This role manages the team responsible for planning, producing, and publishing content across the campaign's digital platforms, ensuring every piece of content supports the campaign's messaging, priorities, and audience engagement goals.

Digital Director Salary range: $103,500 - $111,600

Role Overview

The Deputy Director of Content serves as the operational lead for the campaign's content program, building systems that keep content moving from idea to publication. This role manages content planning, team workflows, cross-departmental coordination, and publishing priorities while mentoring staff and maintaining a high bar for quality, consistency, and execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily execution of the campaign's content strategy.
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendars across all digital channels.
  • Coordinate content requests from campaign leadership and department heads.
  • Oversee content production schedules and workflow management.
  • Edit and review content to ensure message consistency and quality.
  • Work with creative, video, and social teams to develop integrated content campaigns.
  • Identify storytelling opportunities from campaign events, voter interactions, and news developments.
  • Assist in developing long-form narrative projects and documentary-style content.
  • Ensure content aligns with campaign messaging and communications priorities.
  • Manage content approvals and publication timelines.
  • Track content performance and recommend adjustments to improve effectiveness.
  • Support rapid-response content development during major campaign moments.
  • Maintain content libraries and editorial planning documents.
  • Train and mentor junior content staff and interns.
  • Coordinate content production for major campaign milestones and events.
  • Manage relationships with freelance writers, contractors, or external content contributors as needed.
  • Support other campaign departments and initiatives as needed, including advance work, event coverage, and cross-departmental projects during high-priority moments.

  • You are an experienced content strategist who can see the big picture while managing the details of daily execution.
  • You have strong editorial judgment and can quickly assess whether content is on-message, on-brand, and ready to publish.
  • You are a skilled writer and editor who leads by example and elevates the work of your team.
  • You thrive in a leadership role — you enjoy mentoring junior staff, building systems, and creating structure that helps a team scale.
  • You are deeply familiar with how political communications work and understand campaign messaging cycles, rapid response, and audience targeting.
  • You are comfortable managing cross-departmental relationships and navigating competing priorities from multiple stakeholders.
  • You are calm under pressure and can pivot quickly when campaign priorities shift.
  • You understand that campaign work often requires flexibility, including long hours and weekend work during key moments.
Preferred

Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in digital content strategy, editorial management, or political communications.
  • Experience managing or supervising content teams, including setting priorities, providing feedback, and developing staff.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with a portfolio demonstrating range across platforms and formats.
  • Experience developing and managing editorial calendars and content workflows at scale.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms, content trends, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Experience in political campaigns, advocacy organizations, or fast-paced communications environments.
  • Familiarity with content analytics and performance tracking tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
