Who We Are We bring travelers together in the largest hostel network in the USA, and offer local tours, experiences, and experiential learning programs. HI USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, member-based organization that reinvests surpluses back into our hostels and programs to have a greater impact year after year.
Location MUST BE A RESIDENT OF CHICAGO OR THE CHICAGO AREA TO APPLY.
Do you enjoy interacting with people from different countries and cultures? Are you interested in sharing your knowledge about neighborhood history? Everyday, we offer tours and outings for hostel guests wanting to see and experience all that Chicago has to offer. This is a great opportunity to meet and engage with people from around the world. We invite you to bring your area of expertise to curate a weekly northside Chicago neighborhood tour.
We are seeking walking tour guides for areas such as Andersonville, Wrigleyville, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Rogers Park, and more. We are seeking a volunteer who knows the area well, and who can share with guests the history that has made the neighborhood what it is today. We are seeking a volunteer to develop a tour focusing on the areas of culture, murals/public art, and/or food.
The volunteer would meet guests at our hostel in the Loop, then take them on the CTA to the particular neighborhood, where the volunteer would lead the tour.
- Meet new people from all over the world, including travelers, staff, and fellow volunteers
- Help bring people together and facilitate cultural exchange
- Build skills in public speaking, foreign languages, intercultural communication, and more
- Earn HI USA membership and overnights at HI USA hostels
- Training provided and flexible schedule
- Have fun while making a difference!
We are looking for a 1.5 hour - 3 hour tour/outing on any of the following days:
Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays. This event would be recurring weekly or monthly.
HI USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education association. Our purpose is to "inspire a deeper understanding of people, places and cultures for a more tolerant world." As a nonprofit, the revenues we receive through overnight stays and memberships are reinvested in mission delivery.
