United Workers’ Center (CTU) seeks a full-time salary Senior Labor Organizer. The Senior Labor Organizer will lead CTU’s grassroots efforts to empower low-wage workers, build community leadership, and advance economic and social justice through strategic campaigns.
The ideal candidate will have experience developing and implementing labor organizing strategies and campaigns, with a strong commitment to building power and leadership among low-wage workers in marginalized communities. They will also represent CTU in labor coalitions and policy advocacy aligned with the organization’s labor priorities.
This position reports to the Organizing Director, includes a three-month probationary period, and is on-site at CTU’s Chicago/Suburban office (9805 S. Ewing Ave, Chicago, IL).
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead CTU’s labor organizing team, supervising Labor Organizer(s) and supporting strategic campaigns and vision
- Collaborate with CTU organizing teams (immigration, education, economic justice) to coordinate campaigns and initiatives
- Recruit, engage, and sustain a strong worker-member base; work with members to develop campaigns addressing workplace inequities and labor standards
- Facilitate biweekly bilingual membership orientations and regular member meetings to educate and mobilize workers
- Manage staffing and training to ensure coverage of community office hours and follow-up on labor cases
- Develop and maintain relationships with allies, community organizations, religious institutions, and local leaders
- Support CTU’s participation in labor coalitions and labor policy advocacy
- Attend and organizational meetings; support outreach, fundraising, and other duties as assigned
We’re seeking candidates who excel in relationship‑building, are self‑motivated, and have strong organizing and management skills.
- 4+ years of labor organizing experience, including base‑building, mobilization, and community‑led campaigns
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice, especially for low‑wage workers of color, including immigrants
- Experience with workers’ rights and familiarity with Chicago/Illinois labor policy
- Preferred bilingual (Spanish/English/French) with strong written/verbal communication and interpretation skills
- Strong interpersonal, problem‑solving, planning, time‑management, and communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, support program reports, and collaborate with leadership
- Basic computer skills; driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
