Position Summary:
Serve as a key liaison by working with schools, parents, community members, faith based organizations and sister agencies to cultivate a culture of communication that links home/school/community while representing CPS in a positive manner.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop partnerships and establish communication with appropriate sister agencies (CAPS, CPD, CYFS and CHA. etc.)
- Introduce Community and Faith Based Organizations to their local schools; encourage CBOs and FBO to support their local school
- Provide timely, credible and accurate responses to community stakeholders; reinforce the CPS message that the School is the Center of the community; maintain regular contact with CBOs and, FBOs through site visits, written correspondence, technical assistance and telephone contact
- Schedule meetings with sister agencies to brief each other on new initiatives
- Identify opportunities to partner with sister agencies on initiatives that will benefit CPS
- Listen and pro-actively address community concerns that affect the Chicago Public School system
- Identify within each community, after-school, weekend program gaps
- Work with schools to help provide a friendly and welcoming environment where parents and community members feel they are wanted and welcomed
- Assist schools with creating/establishing a parent room that can be utilized by all parents
- Assist with increasing parental participation in local schools and district wide activities
- Identify opportunities for parents to benefit from Community Based Organizations and Faith Based Organizations initiatives
- Assist schools at the local level with effective programs to increase parental involvement
- Assist with coordination of activities associated with CPS special projects
- Attend and support CPS press events
- Assist with Back-to-School Campaign
- Assist with recruitment of Local School Council (LSC) candidates
- Assist with school opening and closing projects
- Assist with special initiatives from other central office departments
- Maintain a database of CBOs and FBOs
- Other duties as assigned by the Unit Director

Skills:
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with CPS parents, CPS employees, community organizations, faith-based organizations, appointed and elected officials; ability to work in a team environment and independently; strong communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written; ability to make persuasive public presentations; ability to listen and respond to internal and external customers on a number of issues.
- Ability to accomplish goals using sound analytical and decision-making skills, and to creatively problem-solve complex issues.
- Knowledge of Chicago Public Schools, community and faith based organizations
Experience and Number of Years:
- Experience managing volunteer initiatives and developing strategies related to volunteerism, community leadership and community relations programs; knowledge of public relations and public involvement techniques and strategies.
- Experience in working with community and faith based organizations to support their involvement with Chicago Public Schools.
- Active participation with community organizations.
