Justice And Peace Coordinator Associate

The Felician Sisters of North America is hiring a part-time Justice and Peace Coordinator Associate to work in our Chicago location. This position will average 20-29 hours per week and offers a flexible hybrid setting after the initial training/orientation onsite.

Position Overview

The Justice and Peace Coordinator Associate works alongside the Provincial Justice and Peace Coordinator providing leadership and direction to the justice work of the Felician Sisters of North America as conveyed in their Corporate Stands, the Mission and Vision of the Congregation, and further delineated in Chapter Enactments.

Corporate Stands include but are not limited to:
Current justice issues such as human trafficking, death penalty, homelessness, immigration and gun violence.

Responsibilities
  • Support and serve as a resource to the Provincial Leadership Team, the Felician Sisters, and the Felician Associates regarding the ideals of Catholic Social Teaching and issues calling for a justice response.
  • Coordinate actions, create educational resources and reflection materials around issues related to justice and peace.
  • Create opportunities for education and action for the sisters, associates, and collaborators.
  • Maintain vital relationships with congregations, nonprofit organizations, and justice-related networks, responding to global, national, regional, and local issues.
  • Represent the Felician Sisters of North America at local, regional, and national conferences and gatherings related to social justice.
  • Communicates and promotes awareness of critical issues related to peace, justice and the integrity of creation on local, regional and national levels.
  • Serves as liaison/representative with local, regional, and national peace and justice organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Department to develop timely position statements that reflect the mission and core values of the Felician Sisters of North America on matters or situations of national and/or international concern as they emerge.
  • Lead educational workshops/presentations/trainings and events on justice issues.
  • Build greater awareness and advocacy around the province's corporate stands.
  • Disseminate e-newsletters and action alerts, as well as collaborate with communications office partners regarding province's social media content related to justice and advocacy issues.
Requirements

Education:

Spiritually mature with a strong sense of vocation to social justice and a deep respect for Catholic Social Teaching. Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred. Applicants with degrees in the areas of Social justice, Restorative Justice, Community Organizing, Theology, Public Policy, Political Science, etc. will be strongly considered.

Experience:

At least three to five years of experience in a position focused on education and activism in the areas of Catholic Social Teaching/Social Justice. Preferred Experience in facilitating and convening groups. Demonstrated experience in promoting education, social activism and related initiatives, such as issuing educational alerts, statements, sign-ons, or engaging in issue campaigns, forming coalitions, etc. Catholic faith and teaching preferred.

Knowledge:
Possess some knowledge of religious life and can demonstrate a personal commitment to the Catholic Social and Moral Teaching. Clear understanding and connection with the Mission and Vision of the Congregation. Knowledge of current best practices in the field of justice and advocacy…
