Position: 2026 Housing Action | Housing Action Corps | Communications

The Communications and Engagement VISTA will serve with Housing Action Illinois in Chicago, IL from September . This position is part of Housing Action Corps, an Ameri Corps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. Housing Action Corps members receive custom training, support, and networking opportunities in housing and community development, in addition to the traditional benefits of Ameri Corps VISTA.

Housing Action Illinois is a statewide coalition that has been leading the movement to protect and expand the availability of quality, affordable housing and end homelessness in Illinois for nearly 40 years. Our 200+ member organizations include housing counseling agencies, homeless service providers, developers, and policymakers. We work to create a stable, good home for all Illinois residents.

We are looking for someone passionate about housing justice and communications. A competitive candidate will have excellent writing skills, be highly organized, motivated to learn, take initiative, and thrive while managing a wide variety of projects. The position offers a $300 monthly stipend for housing, transportation, and/or groceries.

Member Duties

The Communications and Engagement VISTA will organize our archives, collect oral histories, document accomplishments, and plan ways to celebrate 40 years of impact. They will build awareness and understanding of homelessness and affordable housing and our coalition’s role by updating the website, creating newsletter content, and developing program videos and animated explainers. In collaboration with staff, they will expand resources by identifying and applying to prospective funders and strengthening individual giving campaigns.
