Environmental Planning and Outreach Intern Paid Interns
Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $18.00 per hour.
Required Documents- Letter of recommendation from a class instructor, professor, or Internship Coordinator from current school or university.
- Resume.
- Currently enrolled in a degree‑seeking program in an accredited college or university and will be enrolled in the 2026/2027 school year.
- Permanent residency within the territorial boundaries of the MWRD (students may attend school outside the territorial boundaries).
- You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

DescriptionThe Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) is seeking a current student for an internship with the Office of the Board of Commissioners. The role includes conducting research and analysis on environmental and water‑infrastructure projects, assisting with reports and executive summaries for newsletters, social media content, and educational materials that support environmental and community outreach initiatives. The intern will also help curate a monthly newsletter highlighting MWRD’s impact and achievements and participate in community events to promote sustainability and represent MWRD’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel to/from various worksites locations.
- Must be available to participate with staff at weekend events.
Applicants must be a current graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in Environmental System Science and Sustainability.
