LIGHT Movement is a volunteer‑run nonprofit dedicated to providing accessible, somatic‑based grief education and support. We are seeking an experienced volunteer Grant Writing Mentor to teach and support our MSW interns as they learn the fundamentals of grant writing.
This role requires approximately 3–5 hours per week and offers a wonderful opportunity to mentor the next generation of social workers while helping expand grief support in our communities.

The Grants Task Supervisor is responsible for mentoring interns interested in grant writing.
Primary duties include:
- Facilitating weekly meetings related to LIGHT Movement’s grant process. During the school year, grants will be held on Mondays.
- Educating interns about fundamentals related to grant writing, editing, and submission
- Assisting interns in writing, editing, and submitting letters of interest and grant applications
- Guiding interns through researching grantor prospects
- Collaborating with interns’ social work supervisors to ensure interns meet their learning goals
All candidates should have significant experience writing, editing, and submitting grants, as well as a love for educating individuals with little or no experience in the field. Ideal candidates will have a combination of the following experience:
- At least four years writing and submitting foundation, charitable, and corporate grants
- At least three years writing and submitting local, state, and federal government grants
- At least two years managing grants of various sizes, preferably with both outright funds and reimbursement payment structures
- At least three years mentoring interns, Ameri Corps members, or individuals in similar roles and/or teaching students in a different capacity
- At least three years working in a nonprofit setting
Ideal candidates will also have the following:
- Strong technical writing revision skills
- Be detail‑oriented
- Have a passion for social work as it relates to bereavement and mental health
- Able to provide constructive feedback
- Patience when teaching and answering questions
- Familiarity with Foundation Director and Grant Station
- Knowledge of OMB 2 CFR Part 200
