Volunteer/ Outreach Coordinator

Department: Operation/ Human Resources Department

Reports To: Operation Director

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization's volunteer program. This position recruits, screens, trains, schedules, and retains volunteers while fostering a positive volunteer experience that supports the organization's mission and strategic goals. The Volunteer Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between volunteers, staff, and community partners, ensuring volunteers are effectively integrated into programs and services.

The ideal candidate is organized, personable, community-oriented, and passionate about engaging volunteers to make a meaningful impact.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Volunteer Recruitment and Outreach
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit qualified volunteers.
  • Build partnerships with schools, colleges, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups.
  • Represent the organization at community events, health fairs, volunteer fairs and networking events.
  • Collaborate with grants and operations to promote volunteer initiatives through social media, newsletters, websites, and other communication channels.
  • Identify opportunities to establish new community partnerships that support organizational goals and expand volunteer engagement.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating community events and fundraising activities.
  • Serve as a liaison between the organization and community stakeholders to strengthen relationships and promote collaboration.
  • Review volunteer applications and conduct interviews.
  • Ensure volunteers complete all required training and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate orientation sessions and onboarding activities.
Volunteer Management
  • Match volunteers with opportunities based on their interests, skills, and organizational needs.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer schedules in collaboration with department managers.
  • Monitor volunteer assignments and performance.
  • Provide coaching, support, and ongoing communication to volunteers.
  • Address volunteer concerns and resolve issues professionally and promptly.
  • Develop and facilitate volunteer orientation.
  • Ensure volunteers understand organizational policies, procedures, confidentiality, and safety protocols.
  • Work closely with department managers to assess volunteer needs.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, program leadership, and community partners to support organizational initiatives
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience coordinating volunteers, community outreach, customer service, human resources, or program coordination.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, or community-based organization is preferred.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit operations and community engagement strategies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate, and retain volunteers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift to 40-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work for volunteer events or community outreach activities.
  • Local travel may be required.
