VOCAL is an Ameri Corps program sponsored by Literacy Volunteers of Illinois (LVI) and supported through the Serve Illinois Commission. VOCAL Ameri Corps members are placed with community-based organizations, schools, and faith-based agencies throughout Illinois, where they help strengthen adult literacy, education, and workforce development programs. Depending on their host site placement, members may provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring and instruction, recruit and coordinate volunteers, assist with tutor training, provide employment and career-readiness support, conduct community outreach, and assist with marketing, public relations, and fundraising activities.
VOCAL Ameri Corps service provides members with meaningful hands-on experience while developing valuable skills in education, leadership, communication, program coordination, and community engagement. Members have the opportunity to make a direct impact by helping adults and families improve their literacy skills, pursue educational and employment goals, and strengthen their communities.
