Overview
HI USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, member-based organization that brings travelers together in the largest hostel network in the USA and offers local tours, experiences, and experiential learning programs aimed at cultural understanding.
Time Commitment:
We are seeking a volunteer to lead a recurring Wednesday lunchtime outing (12:00–2:30 PM) to the DuSable Black History Museum. The tour would start at the hostel (in the Loop) and include transit via public transit to the museum. The volunteer would meet guests at our hostel in the Loop, ride CTA to the destination area, and guide guests to select exhibits or allow them to roam at their own pace.
Eligibility note:
Must be a resident of Chicago or the Chicago area to apply.
- Shadow an existing tour/outing as training and then lead guests on a cultural outing to the DuSable Black History Museum in Hyde Park.
- Meet guests at the hostel and facilitate transportation to and around the museum area.
- Incorporate off-the-beat-en-track sites and include minority-owned businesses to support and include historically underrepresented/diverse perspectives of the city.
- Meet new people from all over the world, including travelers, staff, and fellow volunteers
- Help bring people together and facilitate cultural exchange
- Build skills in public speaking, foreign languages, intercultural communication, and more
- Earn HI USA membership and overnights at HI USA hostels
- Training provided and flexible schedule
- Have fun while making a difference!
We are looking for a volunteer to lead a recurring Wednesday outing from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM, starting at our hostel in the Loop and ending at the DuSable Black History Museum. Preference is for a volunteer who can lead all Wednesdays in February, but we are open to a volunteer who can lead 2+ Wednesdays.
Purpose / HI USA MissionHI USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational association. Our purpose is to "inspire a deeper understanding of people, places, and cultures for a more tolerant world." Revenues from overnight stays and memberships are reinvested in mission delivery.
