Entry Level, Full time. 4–10 hour shifts (rotating). Clinic opens Monday to Saturday. Must be available between 5 am and 8 pm.
- Purpose and Scope
The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry‑level designation within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). The position is accountable for the coordination of clinically competent care—assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation—for an assigned group of patients, including delegation to RNs, LVN/LPNs and patient care technicians. As part of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health‑care team, the RN participates in decision‑making, teaching, leadership, and quality‑improvement activities that enhance patient outcomes and facility operations.
- Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor or other Registered Nurses.
- Collects and analyzes patient data pre‑, during‑, and post‑hemodialysis, documents in the medical record, modifies treatment plans as needed, and notifies the Team Leader, Charge Nurse, Supervisor or Physician.
- Assesses, collaborates, and documents patient/family learning needs; provides initial and ongoing education.
- Directs and collaborates on the daily provision of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy.
- Administers medications per prescription or approved algorithms and documents justification and effectiveness.
- Initiates or assists with emergency response measures.
- Provides resources for the health‑care team, participates in staff training and orientation.
- Ensures correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping; reschedules missed or insufficient collections.
- Documents and updates nursing assessment and plan of care in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team.
- Maintains patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options.
- Completes CAP requirements to advance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting, patient movement, and ambulation assistance; may use equipment or assistance.
- Requires frequent, prolonged standing and the ability to bend over.
- May move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs and lift materials up to 30 lbs as high as 5 ft.
- Work environment is a controlled health‑care facility with moderate noise levels.
- Potential exposure to infectious and contagious materials.
- Includes desk and computer work, interaction with patients, staff, and physicians.
- May involve travel to training sites or other facilities.
- Essential functions may be performed at other locations with similar demands.
- Supervision
- Oversees Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge once:
- All FKC education and training requirements are completed.
- Minimum of 9 months RN experience is achieved.
- Minimum of 3 months chronic/acute hemodialysis experience as an RN is achieved.
- Oversees Patient Care Technicians, LPNs, LVNs, and RNs as Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge once:
- Education and Licensure
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current appropriate state licensure.
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.
- Meet state practice requirements for the state of employment.
- Experience and Required Skills
- Entry level for RNs with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience.
- Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred.
Hourly Rate: $40–$56
