Summary:
The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who specializes in providing comprehensive healthcare to women throughout the lifespan, with an emphasis on reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. The CNM collaborated with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic, patient‑centered care both in clinical and hospital settings. This role promotes education, wellness, and preventative care for women and their families, while also managing low to moderate risk pregnancies and deliveries.
Minimum Qualifications:- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Midwifery program
- Certification as a Nurse Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
- One to two years of clinical experience preferred.
- Experience in prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum and gynecologic care
- CPR Certification
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prenatal exams and assessments
- Labor and delivery management for low‑mid risk pregnancies
- Postpartum care for mothers and newborns
- Annual exams, family planning, contraceptive counseling, and menopause management
- Conduct physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe medications within scope of practice
- Educate patients and families on health maintenance, reproductive health, and prenatal/postnatal acre
- Provide continuous labor support, including monitoring fetal well‑being and progress of labor
- Manage spontaneous vaginal deliveries and provide immediate newborn care
- Collaborate with physicians and nurses to manage obstetric emergencies when they arise
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Supports change and participates in activities to promote organizational development
- Reviews and complies with MVHC policies and procedures related to regulatory standards (HFAP, OSHA, HIPAA, etc.)
- Demonstrates actions and behaviors that consistently contribute to the safety of all (i.e., incident reporting, hazards, and infection control management, etc.)
- Positively and appropriately accepts direction and constructive input from Leadership.
- Completes appropriate documentation within the specified timeframe
- Follows proper technique in assisting and performing procedures
- Recognizes and reports signs of abuse or domestic violence
- Displays ability and uses critical thinking skills to set priorities for patient care, self, and others
- Conducts and/or coordinates daily rounds with physicians
- Submits incident reports, evaluations, anecdotal notes, informal and formal counseling’s by deadlines and/or in a timely manner
- Adheres to all MVHC’s policies and procedures fully cooperating with the MVHC Compliance Program
