Salary: $90,985.44/yr to $/yr (subject to collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints)

Residency Requirement: Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date (RNs only)

Position Summary

The Administrative Nurse III (ANIII) is a Registered Professional Nurse who develops and supervises nursing services of one or more nursing units in inpatient and/or outpatient departments. The ANIII manages direct patient care, improves patient outcomes, and integrates shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, and Magnet's Five Models of Care into clinical practice. The ANIII plans, organizes, directs, and controls all unit/service line activities, ensuring effective utilization of resources and personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Motivates and manages nurses, medical assistants, and other healthcare workers.
  • Manages the unit/service line's day‑to‑day clinical operations, including practice standards, staffing, budgets, fiscal management, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops an annual budgetary staffing plan to promote safe patient care practices.
  • Develops and implements action plans to improve staff development.
  • Acts as a professional leadership role model.
  • Manages, plans, and monitors unit/service line activities.
  • Hires, evaluates, and counsels unit/service line personnel.
  • Utilizes scheduling systems to facilitate optimal staffing, scheduling, and patient assignments.
  • Manages and controls unit/service line expenditures within established budgets.
  • Communicates effectively and maintains confidentiality with patients/families, medical staff, nursing staff, and interdepartmental staff.
  • Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, coworkers, community, and the nursing profession.
  • Promotes and supports shared leadership as the selected method of nursing governance.
  • Promotes collaboration between coworkers, all members of the health care team, patients, and their families.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Communicates in an effective and professional manner to resolve conflicts.
  • Actively participates in Medical Center communication processes through timely review and response to electronic and written messages.
  • Adheres to and enforces the Medical Center's Code of Conduct.
  • Treats patients/families, staff, students, and visitors with respect and dignity.
  • Adheres to and enforces nursing attendance policies.
  • Completes electronic learning modules and related programs as assigned by Medical Center Learning by an established date.
  • Complies with University Health Services TB and fit‑testing requirements.
  • Initiates resolution of patient care problems using established communication channels.
  • Resolves recurring clinical practice and unit problems, participating in problem solving and resolution using established communication channels.
  • Facilitates the planning, presenting, and evaluating of learning/educational experiences for staff and students.
  • Serves as a resource to other nursing staff and students.
  • Collaborates with Staff Nurse II to direct unit-based quality initiatives and provide feedback and education to staff.
  • Encourages and supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts conducted on the unit and in the Medical Center.
  • Maintains professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet such needs.
