Registered Nurse PACU

Shift Type: 3 days per week; 10 hours per shift

Job Type: Part‑time

Provides nursing care to the surgical patient, involving assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the immediate post‑anesthetic period. Delivers PACU/Recovery nursing care in the facility.

• Demonstrate competency across procedures within scope of practice for patients of all ages:
  Infant (0‑1), Pediatric (2‑12), Adolescent (13‑17), Adult (18‑69), Geriatric (70+ years).
• Apply the nursing process consistently in all patient care activities, completing documentation according to established policy, procedure, and protocol.
• Communicate accurate and timely information regarding patient care to patients, significant others, and team members.
• Record pertinent information clearly, accurately and in a timely manner.
• Demonstrate positive interpersonal relationships with patients, significant others, and co‑workers.
• Utilize appropriate lines of communication.
• Assess patient health status through interview, physical assessment for all age groups according to the plan of care, recognition of variances, review of records, and consultation with perioperative team members.
• Organize a plan of care that is prioritized, timely, and integrated with the surgical plan; gather supplies, imaging, and instruments/equipment for cases.
• Admission/Discharge RN Responsibilities: complete admissions and admission documentation, perform necessary lab work and IV placement, prepare patients for discharge, evaluate progress against discharge criteria, provide discharge instructions and education, confirm patient or significant other’s ability to manage continuing care, safely administer medications, and teach protocols for medication and equipment use.
• PACU RN Responsibilities: implement orders for post‑anesthesia care, implement standing orders for critical emergencies, administer critical care medications per policy, adjust patient plans of care to meet outcomes.
• Document patient care according to form guidelines, protocol, and content standards; maintain accurate logs and records of medication control.
• Restock area with applicable supplies and perform appropriate cleaning functions for the unit.
• Participate in conferences, committee meetings, and educational programs as necessary.
• Clinical Leadership: exercise judgment and decision‑making, advocate for patients, serve as preceptor for new team members, demonstrate effective communication and intervention in stressful situations, create and maintain a safe and comfortable operating environment, explain procedures to patients, administer prescribed medications, prepare equipment, observe and record significant patient conditions, perform vital signs, respond to life‑saving situations, document nursing history and physical assessment, initiate patient education plans, prepare rooms and instruments for surgery, and participate in quality improvement activities.

• Current RN license.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.

Salary: $34.00 to $48.00 depending on experience
