Summary

The Employee Health Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) employees, contract employees and non‑employee groups, with a focus on occupational health. The Employee Health Registered Nurse exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and provides services in accordance with RUMC policies and procedures, established protocols and standard operating procedures to meet the diverse health care needs of the Rush employee population.

Required

Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's of Nursing degree from an approved school of nursing.
  • Current RN licensure to practice in the State of Illinois.
  • Three years of experience in clinical nursing practice – employee health clinic, occupational health nursing, infectious disease or internal medicine clinic.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state and regulatory agency laws and regulations regarding employee and occupational health.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in all aspects of immunizations for adults.
  • Communication skills to lead and teach.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others in difficult situations.
  • Extensive knowledge of EMR and related programs: EPIC, Cority, Excel, Microsoft Office.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience with occupational health, infection control, emergency medicine or ambulatory care.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
  • Ability to lift or carry objects 35-40 lbs and to lift and position patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.
  • Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
Responsibilities
  • Complete required new employee/contractor and volunteer screening, including screening for TB, Hepatitis B, MMR and varicella, as well as other applicable immunizations. Communicate the clearance process and updates to Human Resources/Recruitment or the hiring manager.
  • Provide safe, competent and efficient nursing care for minor and acute injuries and illnesses via protocols and medical directives.
  • Evaluate and complete sick calls, following the appropriate referrals, return‑to‑work approval protocols and employee education.
  • Perform blood/body fluid exposures, infection control/communicable diseases exposure treatment and follow‑up per protocol.
  • Review Employee Injury reports for accuracy, consistency and completeness, reviewing the incident with the employee and the employee’s supervisor as needed.
  • Participate in investigation and follow‑up on all work‑related injuries/illnesses. Monitor for trends and address, develop and implement strategies to prevent work‑acquired injury or illness. Coordinate care and follow up with the Occupational Medicine physician and expedite return to work.
  • Complete all COVID Team duties, including COVID test result notification, documentation, intake and return to work with proficiency in all Epic functionality (e.g., result pools, dashboard, encounter documentation).
  • Serve as Tier 2 escalation from Employee Service Center (ESC) to triage and resolve escalated clinical cases in Service Now or via phone warm‑transfer within the established turnaround times.
  • Participate in preventive screening programs (e.g., TB surveillance, influenza vaccines, Hepatitis B, MMR, varicella and other appropriate immunizations) designed to identify and monitor risks to the employee’s health.
  • Document all employee visits thoroughly and accurately in Cority, Epic and/or other designated documents.
  • Assist in the coordination of annual fit testing of N95 masks.
  • Collaborate with other members of the health care team to assess, direct and evaluate treatment approaches and to improve the quality of care given.
