Registered Nurse, Oncology OCC Chicago

City of Hope is a leading cancer research and treatment organization dedicated to making hope a reality for all touched by cancer and diabetes. With a National Cancer Institute–designated comprehensive cancer center and a network of clinical care locations, including Chicago, City of Hope provides advanced oncology services.

Schedule:

Must be able to work M‑Th, 7:00a‑m to 3:30p‑m; F, 8:00a‑m to 12:30p‑m. No evenings, no weekends, no on‑call.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents the care of ambulatory patients.
  • Directs the care delivered by medical assistants and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Functions independently while performing patient care in accordance with provider orders and accepted practice standards (ONS and IANS).
  • Provides treatments, procedures and other care as prescribed and according to patient care standards and the plan of care.
  • Identifies emergency situations and initiates appropriate actions.
  • Advocates and coordinates patient care with other health‑care personnel and evaluates patient‑care measures instituted.
  • Respects patient rights and manages ethical issues in patient care.
  • Consults with the healthcare profession, patient or caregiver regarding patient advocacy and delivery of safe, competent, and quality nursing care.
  • Administers medications, chemotherapy, IV fluids and blood products safely and per policy.
  • Conducts and reinforces patient education, including treatment plan, financial implications, symptom management, side‑effects, patient and family responsibilities, and available resources.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse, Illinois license.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • 2 years’ experience in oncology or a related area.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proof of chemotherapy infusion certification and/or training within 6months of hire.
