Salary

The previously determined range for this position was $/hr. The final rate offered will be determined by the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Position Summary

The Clinical Nursing Consultant II will typically develop and implement nursing educational programs for nursing service personnel in a clinical service. The Clinical Nurse Consultant II is accountable for facilitating the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Clinical Nurse Consultant II provides patient care and consultation, coordinates the educational development of staff members and acts as a role model in clinical practice.

The CNCII strives to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Clinical Nurse Consultant II participates in monitoring, developing, and evaluating nursing practice while fulfilling unit and organizational goals.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinates Lactation Services within UI Health.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to patients, physicians, employees and visitors to UI Health.
  • Discusses patient and hospital information only to appropriate personnel in private places.
  • Views patients holistically: considers physical, psychological, emotional, age specific, cultural and spiral factors.
  • Demonstrates appropriate assessment skills (interview inspections, implementation of breastfeeding plan, latch score) for breastfeeding mother and her baby.
  • Recognizes, synthesizes, and responds to a patient situation.
  • Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises an individualized plan of care for the breastfeeding family, while actively involving them in the plan of care.
  • Utilizes the UI Health breastfeeding policy when caring for Breastfeeding Committee as needed and teaches others about following the policy.
  • Provides direct and/or indirect care to a specific case load of patients regardless of geographic location.
  • Receives and assesses referrals from all hospital units and outpatient areas.
  • Identifies patient and family education needs. Develops and revises patient education materials for breastfeeding oversees/teaches the prenatal/postpartum breastfeeding class and helps to revise and update materials as needed. Teaches families according to these approved materials to prevent conflict of information. Provides additional resources as needed and identifies necessary resources to assure readiness for discharge.
