Position Summary
HPH is looking for experienced nurses for Labor & Delivery to provide professional nursing services in the treatment and care of antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients. Assess, plan, evaluate, implement, and document the nursing process of care delivery. Assume responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and delivery of patient care. Consistently perform according to nursing standards and manage patient care and assist others in the management of patient care.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
- Communicate and collaborate with nurses, physicians, OB technicians and other members of the health‑care team to develop a plan of care to ensure optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.
- Chart observations and activities related to patient care in the electronic health record.
- Provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care for a patient population using critical‑thinking skills, advocacy abilities and ethical approaches.
- Guide and direct assigned unlicensed assistive personnel in delivering interdisciplinary patient care.
- Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition and report changes to the physician.
- Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, infection control and the hospital policies and patient‑care‑outcome standards.
- Actively participate in quality‑assurance/process‑improvement initiatives to improve patient safety and outcomes, such as monitoring compliance of core measures and infection‑control practices.
- Educate patient/family prior to discharge regarding the diagnosis, medication and discharge instructions.
- Collect blood specimens by venipuncture or microtechniques for laboratory analysis necessary for patient treatment and diagnosis.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Review patients’ obstetrics/gynecology history to identify risk factors.
- Apply fetal monitoring skills utilizing NICHD guidelines; preferred certification in electronic fetal monitoring.
- Be able to care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients.
- Proficient in caring for high‑risk pregnant patients.
- Circulate cesarean section, tubal ligation or D&C.
- React quickly and appropriately to emergent situations.
- Offer labor support during the intrapartum period.
- Provide infant care and education to mother/sigificant other or designee.
- Assist new mothers with lactation needs.
- Minimum of 1 to 5 years Labor and Delivery experience preferred.
- Current IL RN license.
- NRP required.
- BLS required.
- ACLS required.
