Position: Assistant Director of Nursing (nursing home)

Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing (DON) in managing the nursing department within a long-term care facility. The ADON helps oversee the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves supervision, staff development, quality assurance, and administrative duties to maintain a safe, efficient, and compassionate environment for residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the overall operation of the nursing department.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality care in accordance with current standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing staff performance; provide coaching, support, and corrective action as needed.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and training of nursing personnel.
  • Maintain staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Conduct regular rounds to monitor quality of care and resident well-being.
  • Support the implementation and monitoring of infection control, quality assurance, and risk management programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participate in care plan meetings, audits, and surveys.
  • Act as the DON in their absence.
Qualifications:
  • Current RN license in the state of practice (required).
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing long-term care.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
