Position Summary

Registered Nurse – Relationship Based Care at Lurie Children’s Hospital Outpatient Center in Austin. This full‑time (40 hrs per week) role provides relationship‑based care for patients and families with acute and chronic diseases among pediatric, adolescent and young adult populations.

• Perform nursing assessments using a variety of methods and area‑specific tools.
• Develop individualized plans of care and set goals relative to family needs.
• Evaluate and document changes to the plan of care.
• Develop and individualize teaching plans/protocols to meet patient and family learning needs, identifying preferences and motivation to learn.
• Provide nursing care according to procedures and protocols, anticipating emergent situations and intervening effectively.
• Communicate with families and multidisciplinary team members to identify healthcare needs, communicate changes in patient status, and utilize appropriate resources for referrals or consultations.
• Keep up to date in nursing practice by using current literature for information and problem solving.
• Incorporate current hospital and departmental quality initiatives into daily activities.
• Adhere to communication, service excellence, and professional image standards that support the hospital mission and philosophy.
• Work cooperatively as a team member to foster achievement of unit and hospital goals.
• Identify learning needs and seek resources to advance nursing practice and achieve professional goals.
• Demonstrate knowledge of protocols related to chemical disinfection, high‑level disinfection, and sterilization when required.

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher required.
• For difficult to fill positions, an Associates degree in nursing with equivalent experience may be considered.
• Current registered nurse licensure in the State of Illinois.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
• Effective communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
• Special certifications may be required by department.

$34.50‑$56.93 per hour, with the range reflecting minimum and maximum targets. The range is reviewed regularly to align with market conditions.
