Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care

Travel nurse position for ICU, step‑down, PCU, DOU, and IMC units. This role requires extensive critical‑care experience and the ability to perform a wide range of advanced nursing duties.
Responsibilities- Manage patients in ICU, step‑down, and intermediate care units.
- Telemetry monitoring and management of dysrhythmias.
- Execute rapid response and code team interventions.
- Post‑cardiac care including post‑cardiac angiogram, post‑MI, pre/post cardiac catheterization, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR band.
- GI support – feeding tube care and management.
- GU/renal care – pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure.
- IV therapy and phlebotomy including accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, peripheral line care, and starting IVs.
- Medication management – apply heparin protocols, manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration), PCA, procedural sedation administration, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips.
- Neurological/psychiatric care – craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury.
- Orthopedic care – orthopaedic trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements.
- Plastic surgery care – skin grafts, surgical drains.
- Respiratory care – care of ventilated patients, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur‑evac), external CPAP/BIPAP, high‑flow nasal cannula, interpretation of ABGs, oxygen therapy, tracheostomy management, and non‑invasive airway management.
- Isolation precautions, wound care, and wound VAC use.
- Utilize Cerner electronic health record.
- Minimum 1 year ICU/critical care experience.
- Active Illinois license required.
- Certifications:
BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred. - Proficiency with telemetry, cardiac monitoring, rapid response teams, IV therapy, medication protocols, and advanced respiratory care.
- Experience with trauma Level I facilities and teaching hospitals is preferred.
- Availability for a 13‑week travel assignment with up to 5 days RTO and willingness to work every other weekend.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
