Job Description
Join a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Crown Point as a Pre‑Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) at the Ambulatory Surgery Center. This position is 100% onsite. Under the direction of the PACU Charge RN/Nurse Manager, the RN will be responsible for pre‑admission, pre‑operative and postoperative care of the patient, directing professional and other health care personnel in the delivery of nursing care to surgical patients, providing patient education, complying with standards, policies and procedures, and supporting the vision and mission of Ingalls Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Because the position has a wide range of access to protected health information (“PHI”), the RN must understand confidentiality regarding all patient information pursuant to HIPAA policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions- Collaborates closely with physicians to assess, design, coordinate, implement and evaluate the patients’ plan of care and patients’ outcomes.
- Demonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge to provide complex nursing skills and delegates tasks to other Care Team members according to unit‑specific competencies appropriate for the age of the patients served.
- Performs nursing duties, documents in electronic medical records.
- Participates in suite turnover/cleaning and patient transportation.
- Conducts pre‑admission screening phone calls, medical history review, provides patient instructions and post‑discharge phone calls.
- Maintains effective communication and a working relationship with patients, families, physicians, co‑workers, management and ancillary departments, and acts as a preceptor.
- Responsible for safe administration of medications, performing waived lab testing.
- Participates in huddles, staff meetings and checks email at least once a month.
- Performs other duties assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current RN licensed in the state of Indiana.
- Active BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Minimum 1 year of critical care nursing experience.
