Staff Nurse Responsibilities

As a staff nurse you are instrumental in managing operations of your assigned unit. Your work will ensure our residents receive the high standard of care they have grown to expect at Warren Barr Gold Coast by assisting with supervising the activities of all clinical staff on your assigned unit, providing guidance and education to clinical staff, assisting with instilling a positive and inclusive facility culture, ensuring established infection prevention practices are maintained and ensuring adequate staffing for our resident’s needs.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration applicants should have:

  • A valid State of Illinois license (RN or LPN).
Charge Nurse Role

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Guests we serve, the Charge Nurse plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and nursing services to all Guests on the assigned unit as well as in the facility as a whole. The Charge Nurse assists the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Director of Nursing (D.O.N) in the planning, development and overall operation of the assigned unit, which ensures Guests receive quality care 24 hours a day.

Essential Functions
  • Assists the D.O.N and A.D.O.N. with planning, directing, and supervising the activities of the nursing staff.
  • Ensures the Nursing Department is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop, implement and update department policy and procedures when necessary or as directed.
  • Assists with staffing to ensure Guest needs and regulatory requirements are met at all times.
  • Participates in Federal, State and Local agency annual surveys.
  • Reviews any deficiencies noted by government agencies during inspections and assists with the implementation of changes needed to correct any deficiencies found.
  • Provides guidance and education to staff in regards to their performance.
  • Provides counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.
  • Responsible for training and educating staff members on the assigned unit.
  • Responsible to ensure adequate staffing on the assigned unit at all times including but not limited to filling in as a floor Nurse and coordinating floor Nurse and C.N.A. breaks.
  • Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Facilitate Nurse to Nurse admission and discharge reports to/from hospitals and other institutions.
  • Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the appropriate persons.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Guests and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
  • Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Guest care areas.
  • Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Guests to different rooms within the assigned unit.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services.
  • Answers call lights when working in a resident care unit.
  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position directly supervises all Nursing staff on the assigned unit including but not limited to R.N’s, L.P.N’s and C.N.A’s.

    Work Environment
