Neonatology Advanced Practice Provider

Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, is seeking an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology. We care for critically ill infants who are born at Rush and/or transferred in from network hospitals.

Our patient mix ranges from extremely preterm infants to those with complex surgical needs.

The expectation for this role is to care for a complex set of patients and work collaboratively with neonatologists, neonatal fellows, pediatric residents, and fellow Advanced Practice Providers. Responsibilities include delivery room attendance and management, direct patient care, neonatal procedures, and neonatal transport. The schedule for this position rotates and is handled through self-scheduling within guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • The schedule includes 10‑hour day shifts, 16‑hour overnight shifts from 4 pm–8 am, and 24‑hour shifts (24‑hour shifts are not required).
  • This role reports to the two NICU co‑Lead APPs.
  • 100% inpatient.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a licensed physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse who functions as a member of the health‑care team to provide high‑quality, comprehensive acute and/or routine medical/surgical care of Rush patients within the scope of practice granted in accordance with the Rush University Medical Center medical‑staff bylaws. The APP will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost‑effective and quality patient care, and will maintain state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in neonatology are preferred.
  • APRN candidates will require Acute Care Certification.
  • APRN candidates for this position must be acute‑care certified. Experienced NICU APPs may qualify for an up to $20,000 signing bonus.
Position Requirements :
Nurse Practitioner
  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice with clinical specialty appropriate to the position.
  • Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP).
  • Maintains State of Illinois and Federal DEA license.
  • Must maintain Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital, and Rush Copley Medical Center clinical privileges, as applicable.
  • CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Experience treating patients of all ages.
  • Procedural experience (simple laceration repair, I&D).
Position Requirements :
Physician Assistant
  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program.
  • Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Must maintain Rush University Medical Center, Rush Oak Park Hospital, and Rush Copley Medical Center clinical privileges, as applicable.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Experience treating patients of all ages.
  • Procedural experience (simple laceration repair, I&D).

Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs. The total pay range reflects the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions including specialty, relevant experience and training, and other business and organizational factors. The total pay range is for a full‑time, 1.0 FTE employee and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role.

Additional compensation may include premium pay rates, sign‑on bonuses, and relocation allowances. A comprehensive benefits package is also offered.

Pay Range: $144,000 - $203,000
