Job SummaryJoin the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in our Genitourinary (GU) Oncology Program. The APP will provide comprehensive direct patient care, managing patients through autonomous decision making in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical treatments. The APP will also participate in educational, research, and clinical support activities under the direction and supervision of the GU Oncology faculty and Cancer Service Line leadership.
Responsibilities- Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients.
- Assesses, diagnoses, and initiates delegated medical treatments; performs independent interventions and evaluates care.
- Provides a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients.
- Staffs half-day or full-day clinics as assigned.
- Manages the care of patients, including assessment, diagnosis and treatment for assigned patients.
- Documents history and physical examination and changes in management according to government guidelines in the outpatient clinic at University of Chicago.
- Coordinates diagnostic tests, follows up on tests, and other patient care issues.
- Performs reporting for government agencies, chart reviews, refills prescriptions, and manages patient communication channels.
- Attends weekly conferences and yearly continuing education courses to stay current in hematology/oncology patient management.
- Performs bone marrow biopsies.
- Evaluates goals and outcomes considering benefit-versus-burden, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed for the patient’s plan of care.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school or college.
Work ExperienceMinimum 2 years of relevant work experience in a related discipline.
CertificationsCurrent or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). State of Illinois.
Preferred QualificationsOnce licensed: apply for mid-level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number. Privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date.
Technical Skills Or Knowledge- Conduct physical examinations and health assessments.
- Interview and obtain medical information.
- Proficiency in the use of computers.
- Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills.
- Enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire.
