Responsibilities

As a staff nurse, you are instrumental in managing operations of your assigned unit. You will supervise the activities of all clinical staff, provide guidance and education, foster a positive facility culture, maintain infection prevention practices, and ensure adequate staffing for resident needs.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the D.O.N and A.D.O.N. with planning, directing, and supervising nursing staff.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and update department policy and procedures.
  • Assist with staffing to meet Guest needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in federal, state and local agency annual surveys.
  • Review and address deficiencies noted by government agencies.
  • Provide guidance and education to staff regarding performance.
  • Provide counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.
  • Train and educate staff members on the assigned unit.
  • Ensure adequate staffing on the unit at all times, including floor nurse duties and coordinating breaks.
  • Maintain infection control and standard precaution practices.
  • Facilitate nurse-to-nurse admission and discharge reports to/from hospitals and other institutions.
  • Report hazardous conditions, damaged equipment, and supply issues.
  • Maintain comfort, privacy, and dignity of Guests; interact with warmth and respect.
  • Answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously in Guest care areas.
  • Assist with new admissions, re‑admissions, and transfers of Guests to different rooms.
  • Communicate effectively and tactfully with Guests, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in‑services.
  • Answer call lights in resident care units.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position directly supervises all nursing staff on the assigned unit, including R.N.s, L.P.N.s, and C.N.A.s.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role operates in a health care setting with regular walking, use of computers, phones, fax machines. Employees may encounter patients with contagious illnesses.

Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, lifting, and moving items and patients weighing at least 75 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Position Type and Hours

This position is part of a facility open 24/7, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts, holidays, and work during inclement weather will be required.

Travel

Travel to and from company headquarters and other locations will be required.

Required

Education and Experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Science, Nursing, or related field.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current State License as Registered Nurse.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Minimum 2 years R.N. experience.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • 5 years R.N. experience.
  • Previous experience managing a nursing department or unit.
