PositionSummary
The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, relationship‑based care, and nursing excellence standards into clinical practice. The role incorporates professional practice models, current standards of practice, and clinical experience to deliver quality patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting bodies. The Staff Nurse I engages patients and families, develops educational plans, responds to changing needs, collaborates with the healthcare team, and supports departmental goals.
Duties & Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and update the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
- Collaborate with other team members to promote effective patient care.
- Verify and implement orders from physician, physician assistant, and/or advanced practice nurse by performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engage patients and families to develop appropriate educational plans.
- Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient’s changing needs.
- Delegate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act, providing support and feedback.
- Advocate for patients, families, and the community.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence‑based research, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care as measured by nursing standards.
- Assume the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
- Collaborate with other nurses to promote positive learning experiences for staff and students.
- Serve as preceptor and/or resource to nursing support staff and students.
- Pursue continued professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet them.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit‑specific certifications.
- Current advanced cardiac life support certification, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
- Prior operating room experience.
