Rush University Medical Center invites applications for the position of Neonatology Nurse Practitioner to join its Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology.

About the Department
  • 7 Neonatologists, 2 Neonatology Fellows, and 14 fellow NICU APPs
  • The Renée Schine Crown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level-3, 72 bed (single-roomed) state-of-the-art unit.
  • We care for critically ill infants who are born at Rush and/or transferred in from network hospitals. Our patient mix ranges from extremely preterm infants to those with complex surgical needs.
  • Our center has had consistent excellent outcomes in several major neonatal morbidities in very low birth weight infants within the Vermont Oxford Network.
  • The Division partners with Obstetrics and Pediatric subspecialists to provide pre‑natal care and consultation through our multidisciplinary Fetal‑Neonatal Center.
  • Our productive NICU Human Milk research team conducts clinical and translational research in diverse areas such as outcomes associated with mother’s own milk and donor milk, disparities in lactation, and lactation physiology.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • 100% Inpatient
  • Provide delivery room attendance and management, direct patient care, procedures, and neonatal transport
  • The schedule includes 10‑hour day shifts, 16‑hour overnight (4 pm–8 am), and optional 24‑hour shifts (not required) on a rotating schedule, handled through self‑scheduling guidelines
  • Role will report to the two NICU Co‑Lead APPs

Experienced NICU NPs may qualify for an up to $20,000 signing bonus!

Preferred Qualifications
  • Applicants with previous Nurse Practitioner experience in neonatology are preferred.
  • APRN candidates will require Acute Care Certification if doing inpatient work.
Position Requirements

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligibility to obtain licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
  • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
  • Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)

Pay Range: $144,230 - $203,000
