Position SummaryLicensed Practical Nurse II is accountable for delivering patient care under the direction of a physician or registered nurse, following the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model. This role integrates Shared Leadership, Evidence-Based Practice, and nursing excellence standards into direct patient care and interdisciplinary teamwork to achieve unit and organizational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities Clinical- Complete orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
- Participate in patient assessment as delegated, observing, collecting, recording, and reporting patient data.
- Contribute to a nursing care plan with the registered nurse based on ongoing observations and family input.
- Implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, or advanced practice nurses as delegated, performing interventions and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Share information and collaborate with the health care team to promote effective patient care.
- Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to changing patient conditions.
- Engage patients and families to support appropriate educational plans.
- Demonstrate commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment.
- Conduct screening tests for common diseases/viruses.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Advocate for patients, families, community, and the nursing profession.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care.
- Recognize and support Shared Leadership as the nursing governance method.
- Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals in daily behavior.
- Demonstrate accountability for job performance by seeking opportunities to enhance skills, maintaining LPN licensure, BLS, and other required certifications.
- Adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
- Treat patients, families, staff, students, and visitors with respect and dignity.
- Follow Nursing’s time, overtime, and attendance policies.
- Complete electronic learning modules and related programs by established dates.
- Comply with University Health Services TB, flu, and fit‑testing requirements.
- Utilize established communication channels to resolve patient care problems.
- Identify recurring clinical or unit problems and participate in problem‑solving and resolution.
- Collaborate with nurses to promote and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
- Serve as a resource for nursing staff and students.
- Access the Medical Center intranet for communication and policy changes.
- Support nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts.
- Take responsibility for professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies.
