Job Description
Join the Advanced Practice Provider – MICU Rotational at University of Chicago Medicine. Sign‑on bonus up to $10,000 and relocation available.
Responsibilities MICU Primary Team / House Staff- Provide direct management of critically ill MICU patients
- Perform admissions, daily management, and coordination of care
- Collaborate closely with attending physicians, fellows, and multidisciplinary teams
- Participate in rounds, handoffs, and escalation of care
- Provide continuous 24/7 coverage for an additional MICU service
- Function with a mix of autonomy and collaboration depending on census and acuity
- Ensure continuity of care across shifts with structured handoffs
- Rotate through and perform bedside procedures including lumbar puncture, PICC placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis
- Maintain procedural competency and volume expectations
- Respond to and manage ICU‑level consults for oncology patients
- Partner with oncology and ICU teams for escalation and co‑management
- Rotating day and night shifts (24/7 model)
- Weekends and holidays required
- Shared accountability for coverage across all service lines
- Expected flexibility based on census and operational needs
- Advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing required
- Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse (APN) license by start date required
- Current license as a Registered Nurse required
- AANC certification as an ACNP and/or ANP‑BC required
- Minimum two years of critical care clinical nursing experience with demonstrated competence in patient care, teaching, and management of critically ill patients, plus knowledge of critical care clinical protocols preferred
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Master’s program
- Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois PA licensure/registration
- Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers
- Must have AGACNP certification but FNP or ANP will be considered with relevant experience as a PA or NP
- Current BLS/ACLS certification

- Compensation includes a contract with a sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance
