Advanced Practice Provider, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant - MICU

Job Description

Join the Advanced Practice Provider – MICU Rotational at University of Chicago Medicine. Sign‑on bonus up to $10,000 and relocation available.

• Provide direct management of critically ill MICU patients
• Perform admissions, daily management, and coordination of care
• Collaborate closely with attending physicians, fellows, and multidisciplinary teams
• Participate in rounds, handoffs, and escalation of care

• Provide continuous 24/7 coverage for an additional MICU service
• Function with a mix of autonomy and collaboration depending on census and acuity
• Ensure continuity of care across shifts with structured handoffs

• Rotate through and perform bedside procedures including lumbar puncture, PICC placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis
• Maintain procedural competency and volume expectations

• Respond to and manage ICU‑level consults for oncology patients
• Partner with oncology and ICU teams for escalation and co‑management

• Rotating day and night shifts (24/7 model)
• Weekends and holidays required
• Shared accountability for coverage across all service lines
• Expected flexibility based on census and operational needs

• Advanced degree (or equivalent, if license received prior to July 1, 2001) from an accredited school/college of nursing required
• Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse (APN) license by start date required
• Current license as a Registered Nurse required
• AANC certification as an ACNP and/or ANP‑BC required
• Minimum two years of critical care clinical nursing experience with demonstrated competence in patient care, teaching, and management of critically ill patients, plus knowledge of critical care clinical protocols preferred

• Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Master’s program
• Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois PA licensure/registration
• Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers
• Must have AGACNP certification but FNP or ANP will be considered with relevant experience as a PA or NP
• Current BLS/ACLS certification
