Salary: $36.08/hr to $80.98/hr (range). Salary determined by collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience, qualifications, and budget constraints. Illinois residency required within 180 days of hire date (RNs only).

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and proactively improves patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence-Based Practice, Relationship-Based Care, and nursing excellence standards into clinical practice. The role incorporates professional practice models, current standards, and clinical experience to deliver "quality" patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and governing accreditation bodies. The nurse advocates for patients, families, and the nursing profession, and participates in departmental and shared leadership activities, supporting unit goals and daily behavior.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Completes required orientation program and unit-specific competencies.
  • Verifies and implements orders from physicians, physician assistants, and/or advanced practice nurses, performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Shares information and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to promote effective patient care.
  • Recognizes and treats cancer‑related issues.
  • Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.
  • Educates patients and families regarding treatment expectations.
  • Advocates for patients, families, significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrates commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR certification and any required unit‑specific certifications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills facilitating therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Intermediate computer skills with ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.
  • One year of prior RN experience required.
  • Current Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification required prior to hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Outpatient ambulatory experience preferred.
  • Oncology experience preferred.
