Position
Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center – Nursing Float Pool, Full-time, 36 hours per week, 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., weekend and holiday obligations, self-scheduling.
CompensationPay range: $20.80 – $31.20 per hour.
Major Responsibilities- Assist RN with daily patient care including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation using therapeutic assistive devices, positioning, range of motion, and special transfers.
- Measure and document blood pressure, TPRs, I&O, daily weights and other requested patient data accurately in EMR.
- Perform purposeful rounding under RN direction and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and needs of patient/family to RN; document appropriately.
- Participate in admission, transfer and discharge processes under RN supervision, including room set‑up, room orientation, linen removal, and management of patient belongings; ensure call light is in reach and respond promptly.
- Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and perform point‑of‑care testing as indicated; ensure accurate specimen labeling and identification.
- Complete errands such as pick‑up and delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports; maintain and order stock for nursing area; clean equipment and work areas.
- Perform patient positioning and transportation duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique and assistive devices; support nutritional needs as directed by RN.
- Assist with skin integrity maintenance, repositioning and care; provide special supplies such as TED hose and sequential compression devices.
- Under RN direction and unit requirements, may remove IVs, provide post‑mortem care, and perform bladder scans.
- Practice infection prevention policies, including hand hygiene, sterile and aseptic procedures, disposal of contaminated materials, and appropriate attire in isolation settings.
- Apply age‑specific knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages; interpret data related to patient status and age‑specific needs per department policies.
- High school graduate, GED, or HSED. Must maintain annual certifications such as DNV, CARF or others.
- No prior experience required.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
- Must maintain annual certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF).
Nurse Aide in good standing, as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices. Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within 45 days.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; up to 20 lbs. over head; carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
- Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with second person present.
- Use foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Require functional vision and hearing; exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; must wear protective clothing as necessary.
