Job DescriptionRegistered Nurse (RN) PICU – 12‑hour D/N rotating or straight NOC shifts. You must be open to either shift to be considered.
The PICU RN provides relationship‑based care for patients/families with acute and chronic diseases, disorders found in the pediatric and adolescent to young adult populations. Utilizing enhanced specialty knowledge and skills, the RN provides nursing excellence within the designated patient care area(s). The nursing process is applied in five practice areas: clinician, clinical inquiry, teacher, professional development, and leadership. The RN integrates the developmental needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients and actively supports hospital and department quality goals and service excellence principles.

Minimum Qualifications- 1+ years of nursing (RN) experience required; not open to new graduates (applicants may consider the residency program when available).
- 1+ years of PICU experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or higher preferred;
Associate’s degree with equivalent experience acceptable with expectation to complete a BSN. - Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association (BLSC).
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians, and hospital staff.
- Special certifications may be required by the department.
The nurses in this 60‑bed unit provide care for critically ill infants and children who require close monitoring and life‑support systems. Our PICU uses the most recent advancements in equipment and techniques, with specialized attention to critical care and other specialty needs. PICU nurses participate in an inter‑professional approach to quality treatment of patients and their families with medically complex diseases, organ transplantation, multiple traumas, various respiratory illnesses, and many other pediatric critical conditions.
Latest interventions and treatments available in the PICU include extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), specialty ventilation techniques, and transplant services. The PICU provides family‑centered care, bringing family members into care‑plan meetings and daily rounds led by PICU nurses. In addition, PICU nurses care for patients in the robust Pulmonary Habilitation Program that supports families as they train to care for their child who will be discharged home on a ventilator.
