M-F 8-5, Some Sat | Shift: Days | Position: 1 | Posting Date: 7/6/2026 | Salary: $26.99/hr to $41.93/hr (actual rate based on agreement, equity, experience, and budget). This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of hire date.

Licensed Practical Nurse II is accountable for the delivery of patient care as delegated by and under the direction of a physician or registered nurse, utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model. Provides direct patient care and improves outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence-Based Practice, and nursing excellence standards into clinical practice. Acts as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.

Clinical

• Complete required orientation and unit-specific competencies.
• Participate in patient assessment as delegated by the RN, observing, collecting, recording and reporting patient data.
• Contribute to a nursing care plan with the RN based on ongoing observations and patient/family input.
• Implement orders from physician, physician assistant, and/or advanced practice nurse as delegated, perform interventions, and document accurately in the electronic medical record.
• Share information and collaborate with other health care team members to promote effective patient care.
• Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient’s changing conditions and needs.
• Engage and obtain information from patient and/or family to support an appropriate educational plan.
• Demonstrate commitment to UI Health values through teamwork and effective communication to achieve quality outcomes, patient safety, customer satisfaction, and a clean, safe, therapeutic environment.
• Conduct screening tests for common diseases/viruses.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Advocate for patients, families, significant others, community, and nursing profession.
• Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice, and clinical experience to provide quality patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and governing/accrediting bodies.
• Recognize and support Shared Leadership as the selected method of nursing governance.
• Participate in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities; support department and unit goals in daily behavior.
• Demonstrate accountability for job performance by seeking opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge, and by maintaining conditions of employment (LPN licensure, BLS, and other required unit-specific certifications).

• Complete electronic learning modules and related programs as assigned by Medical Center Learning by the established date.
• Comply with University Health Services TB, flu compliance, and fit-testing requirements.
• Utilize established communication channels/chain of command to resolve patient care problems.
• Identify recurring clinical practice or unit problems and participate in problem solving and resolution.

Education / Research

• Collaborate with other nurses to identify, promote and provide positive learning experiences for staff and students.
