The Clinical Nurse II is a professional care provider responsible for overall management of patient care during a specific shift, ensuring safe, effective, and individualized care for Med‑Surg patients with complex medical needs. The role requires strong communication, leadership, and critical thinking skills within a multidisciplinary team environment.

• Provide general direction, guidance, and coordination of patient care activities delivered by other nursing staff.
• Make timely decisions in crisis or emergency situations.
• Communicate effectively with a variety of individuals.
• Apply standard operating policies and procedures.
• Identify and plan care for patients considering age‑specific requirements.
• Operate clinical equipment safely.
• Initiate and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation activities.
• Apply infection control and environment of care principles.
• Collect assessment data across biophysical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual dimensions.
• Perform reassessments according to unit standards and needs.
• Conduct transfer assessments and ensure their completion.
• Formulate and communicate individualized plans of care derived from assessment data.
• Involve patients and significant others, and collaborate with the health‑care team in planning nursing care.
• Ensure implementation of the nursing plan of care and evaluate patient responses.
• Provide education to patients and families based on assessed learning needs.
• Accurately record and document care, signing documentation with a full, legible signature.
• Identify staffing needs to ensure safe, quality patient care.
• Facilitate timely admission and discharge of patients.
• Coordinate and resolve care problems in a timely manner, following the chain of command.
• Promote teamwork and effective interpersonal relationships with all health‑care team members, patients, and families.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, unit policy reviews, unit rounds, patient‑care teams, and other staff meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality, uphold patient/family rights, and demonstrate ethical and legal awareness.
• Participate in staff orientation and development, serving as a resource nurse or preceptor as needed.
• Maintain required certifications and attend in‑service training.
• Maintain a good attendance record and adhere to the departmental dress code policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Illinois (proof required at interview).
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain it within two weeks of starting (proof required at interview).
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, or ability to obtain it within two weeks of starting (proof required at interview).
• At least one year of current Med‑Surg nursing experience within an acute‑care setting.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (official transcript required at interview).
• Bilingual competencies.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse patient populations.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical/problem‑solving skills.
• Mathematical proficiency related to medicine and medication dosing.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and precision.
• Ability to convey information to individuals from varied socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Flexibility and adaptability in performing duties.
• Physical capability to perform necessary tasks, including lifting, bending, and prolonged standing.

• Preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served at least six months of continuous service.
• Candidates must meet minimum qualifications and identify themselves as Veterans on the application.
• Valid discharge papers (DD‑214, DD‑215, or NGB‑22) or a state  Veteran status must be provided at interview.
