PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN – GENERAL MEDICINE – UNIT 6W

Pay range: $24,119 – $29,159 per hour. Starting salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience.

11:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Night shift).

• Interfaces daily with patients, nurses, Nurse Coordinator, Divisional Nursing Director, Support Staff, and Physicians.
• Prepares patient rooms and patient beds for receiving admissions, returning surgical patients, transfers, or emergencies.
• Provides patient care and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) – eating, bathing, changing bed linens, dressing, mobility, continence – and other general care to assure patient physical comfort.
• Obtains intakes and outputs and documents them in the emergency medical record.
• Empties Foley catheter at a minimum of every eight (8) hours or hourly, as directed by RN, and documents in the EMR.
• Empties patient drains as directed by RN. Documents in the EMR.
• Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, weight, and height accurately and precisely.
• Measures and records intake and output accurately and precisely.
• Assists with pre‑ and post‑operative care: positioning patient, lifting and turning with proper body mechanics, ambulating patients, and using special equipment as necessary.
• Assists and accompanies patients through admission, transfer, and discharge, ensuring comfort.
• Participates in nursing reports by providing and receiving status reports of patients.
• Performs treatment procedures such as enemas, surgical skin preparations, and application of ice packs and heat to ensure patient comfort.
• Prepares patients for meals, assists in feeding if necessary, and distributes water and other nourishment according to patient needs.
• Performs general care activities for patients in isolation.
• Provides close observation care to patients.
• Makes rounds, anticipates patient needs, and responds promptly to patient call lights.
• Collects specimens, labels properly, and transports to the correct area in a timely manner.
• Reports pertinent information to appropriate nursing personnel, including any changes observed in patient condition or behavior.
• Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by keeping order in patient rooms, reporting malfunctioning equipment, cleaning equipment (as assigned), and distributing unit linen and supplies.
• Documents patient care information clearly, legibly, and concisely.
• Utilizes AIDET when interacting with patients during hand‑off processes and communicates with healthcare team members during patient transitions or shift changes. This includes evidence‑based practice tools such as AIDET, SBAR, hourly rounds, etc.
• Adapts to changes in workload or patient assignments.
• Recognizes and responds to priorities in patient care.
• Performs assigned duties independently while willingly cooperating with the team.
• Functions calmly and accurately in emergency and crisis situations.
• Evacuates patients in emergencies according to fire and evacuation policy.
• Uses safety devices and standard precautions to prevent the spread of infection and disease.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High School diploma or GED (must provide transcripts at time of interview).
• Valid and current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) (must provide proof at time of interview).
• Valid and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must provide proof at time of interview).
• Basic computer skills.

• At least one (1) year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
