Salary

The previously determined range for this position is $38.26/hr to $85.82/hr the final rate offered will depend on the collective bargaining agreement, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.

This position requires Illinois residency within 180 days of the hire date.

The Staff Nurse II is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse II provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse II functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.
Staff Nurse II facilitates educational development of staff, leads unit-based quality improvement initiatives, and acts as a professional and clinical role model and educational resource for staff. Staff Nurse II is actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council.
- Develop and update the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
- Share information and collaborate with other members of the health care team to promote effective patient care.
- Verify and implement orders from physicians, physician assistants, and/or advanced practice nurses by performing interventions as prescribed and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engage and obtain information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate patient educational plan.
- Recognize symptoms, establish priorities, and respond to patient’s changing needs.
- Engage support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provide support and feedback.
- Advocate for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.
- Assume role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
- Integrate theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide quality patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other governing/accrediting health care bodies.
- Take responsibility for continued professional growth and development by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet such needs.
- Identify recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participate in problem solving and resolution.
- Plan, present, and evaluate learning/educational experiences for staff and students.
- Serve as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing, support staff and students.
- In collaboration with Director/CNCII lead unit-based quality initiatives and provide feedback and education to staff.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- BSN (or higher) from an accredited nursing program.
- Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. Out-of-state and compact licenses are not accepted.
- One (1) year of nursing experience comparable to that gained as a Staff Nurse I.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of related NSICU experience required.
- Nationally certified through ANCC approved certifier or within 6 months of hire in an area relevant to their clinical area.
- Current NIHSS or within 6 months of hire required.
- Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.
