Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Neonatology Nurse Practitioner to join its Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology.

About the Department:

Join a thriving, academically driven department that blends strong clinical care with robust educational programs. Our Team includes:

  • 7 Neonatologists, 2 Neonatology Fellows, and 14 fellow NICU APPs

  • The Renée Schine Crown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level-3, 72 bed (single-roomed), state-of-the-art unit.

  • We care for critically ill infants who are born at Rush and/or transferred in from network hospitals. Our patient mix ranges from extremely preterm infants to those with complex surgical needs.

  • Our center has had consistent excellent outcomes in several major neonatal morbidities in very low birth weight infants within the Vermont Oxford Network.

  • The Division partners with Obstetrics and Pediatric subspecialists to provide pre-natal care and consultation through our multidisciplinary Fetal-Neonatal Center.

  • Our productive NICU Human Milk research team at Rush conducts clinical and translational research in diverse areas: clinical, neurodevelopmental, and economic outcomes associated with mother's own milk and donor milk, disparities in lactation, maternal, infant and milk microbiome, human milk science, and lactation physiology.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • 100% Inpatient

  • Provide delivery room attendance and management, direct patient care, procedures, and neonatal transport

  • The schedule includes 10-hour day shifts, 16-hour overnight (4pm - 8am), and optional 24-hour shifts (24-hour shifts are not required) on a rotating schedule- handled through self-scheduling guidelines

  • Role will report to the two NICU Co-Lead APPs

Experienced NICU NPs may qualify for an up to $20,000 signing bonus!

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Applicants with previous Nurse Practitioner experience in neonatology is preferred.

  • APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification if doing Inpatient work.

Position Requirements:

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process

  • Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position

  • Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. The individual who holds this position will exemplify the Rush mission, vision and values and act in accordance with the policies, procedures, guidelines of Rush, including the Rush Medical Group Customer Service standards. Successful candidates will also meet all other state and federal regulatory practice and accreditation standards.

Rush has over 600 APPs across the enterprise that provide comprehensive patient care each day autonomously and in collaboration with other members of the health care team. Across the system, the APPs are supported by 4 levels of leadership, including 39 Lead APPs, three chief CRNAs, and a Senior Director of Advanced Practice Providers.
