Description:
About the Facility:
The facility has 205 beds and specializes in a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and is recognized as a Primary Stroke Center. There is no trauma designation. The Emergency Department has 24 treatment beds, including 6 bays and 5 fast track beds. The average number of patients per day is 120. Patients range from neonates to geriatrics, with 10-12% being pediatrics.
Common patient presentations include chest pain, dizziness, syncope, respiratory/cardiac arrest, strokes, sepsis, orthopedic issues, respiratory distress/failure, STEMI, and COVID. Patient ratios during day and night shifts are typically 1:4-5, with the fifth patient being low acuity.
Support on the Unit:
Emergency Department nurses work in a 1:4-5 ratio. There is a Charge Nurse available occasionally with patient assignment. Respiratory therapists are available 24/7. There is a unit secretary present during the day shift only. Mobility aides assist with lift equipment. An Emergency Department educator is available Monday to Friday during the day. Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants are part of the team.
Charting System/Equipment:
The preferred electronic medical record system is EPIC. Alaris and Pyxis systems are available and used by registered nurses.
Floating:
There is no floating to other units.
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation is based on facility needs with no set pattern. Flexibility and availability to work 7 days a week are required. Schedules are provided 4 weeks in advance with 2 weeks' notice. Any requests for time off must be approved by the Nurse Manager. There is no on-call requirement. Holiday Expectations:
There is an expectation to work one holiday per year.
