Latin School of Chicago is seeking an experienced registered nurse (RN, BSN) to join our team.

We are seeking a registered nurse to join our Latin community in the position of School Nurse. This is a full-time position responsible for the day-to-day management of student health and management of student medical records. The School Nurse serves as a liaison to the community on health and wellness issues providing resources and education on health issues to students, families and staff.

The typical schedule for this role is:7:45am-3:45pm, Monday through Friday during the school year RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide direct nursing care to ill or injured students during the school day Perform nursing assessments and take appropriate steps to address student health needs, working in concert with the student support teams and other faculty/staff members

Maintain health office in clean, orderly and safe condition with special attention to confidential information, inventory management, and safe disposal procedures

Administer medications and manage chronic illness in coordination with individually developed care plans

Track student illness, notifying appropriate parties of communicable diseases and providing health updates to the community

Assist with the development and maintenance of school health policies and develop/maintain electronic medical records

Manage school health records in accordance with Illinois School Students Records Act Maintain accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions

Prepare all necessary medical information, material and forms for field trips; attendance for some day field trips as well as overnight trips is mandatory

Provide health and wellness information and programs to faculty and staff

Establish appropriate screening tests and referrals as necessary

Participate on interdisciplinary teams to provide input regarding students with health-related problems and during interventions

Be knowledgeable of and implement ISACS policies regarding school health care Review and retain all student, faculty, and staff accident forms

Act as a liaison agent to state, and national health agencies.

Perform communicable illness management including policy development, triage, education, contact tracing.

Other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in Illinois Bachelor of Science in Nursing required CPR/AED program certification

Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a school or pediatric setting

Knowledge of children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development

Highly motivated with outstanding oral, written, and interpersonal skills; strong organizational skills

Demonstrates sensitivity, good judgment, and confidentiality in working with students and parents

Flexibility with schedule REQUIRED CORE

SKILLS:

Deal tactfully with others and exercise good judgment in appraising situations

Make independent and timely nursing decisions and to triage

Understand contemporary health and psychosocial issues that influence children, families, and the community

Ability to secure the cooperation and respect of student, faculty, and staff

Collect data to direct evidence-based practice

Accurately record services rendered and interpret and explain records, reports, activities, health care plans, accommodations and medical interventions

Basic computer skills including Google suites, Excel, etc Experience managing communicable illnesses in a pediatric setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Standing for extended periods

Physical strength to lift, push, or pull up to 30 lbs to help students

Flexibility to bending, squat, and twist to reach students at different heights

Using hands and motor skills to administer care, CPR, assessments and documentation

Mental and cognitive awareness necessary to assess student health status, checking vitals, identifying health issues

Able to walk through hallways, stairs, and classrooms to check on students if necessary
