Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Correctional position requiring 2 years of recent acute care experience and prior correctional nursing experience.

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of submission, no pending licenses accepted
• Current BLS certification
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Prior correctional nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Two professional references required from most recent employers, with specific reference recency rules
• Proof of COVID vaccination required, booster not required
• International candidates must have SSN/SSC in hand prior to submission, pending status not accepted

• Correctional health facility setting within a Med/Surg unit
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM with no block scheduling accommodations
• Every other weekend requirement, approximately 2 weekends per month
• Mandatory float facility, with clinicians required to float across units and specialties at facility discretion
• May be floated to other facilities within 50 miles with as little as 2 hours notice
• Uses Cerner charting system
• No on-call requirements
• Provide direct patient care in a correctional health setting including wound care, IV therapy, and cardiac monitoring
• Utilize isolation precautions and PPE per facility protocol
• Administer oxygen therapy including nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management
• Respond to rapid response and code team activations as needed
• Team-based care model used when floated outside primary competency
• RTO limited to 5 days max with no more than 2 consecutive days, no RTO on weekends
• No holiday RTO and no RTO the day before or after a holiday
• Returning clinicians must undergo full recredentialing and orientation, even after breaks shorter than 30 days
• Local candidates accepted within 75 miles of the facility at a reduced rate
• Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
