West Loop Veterinary Care is offering a full-time, certified or non-certified technician position. We are looking for an individual who will exhibit passion for our mission of providing exceptional medical care to our patients and excellent service to our clients. - Your daily responsibilities will include patient handling and care, client communication and service,
surgery monitoring and procedures, laboratory procedures, and hospital cleanliness. - We ensure each member of our support team is equipped with the tools and training that they need to operate effectively in every area of the hospital.
West Loop Veterinary Care is an organized, state of the art, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited and Cat Friendly Certified practice conveniently located near public transportation in Chicago’s West Loop Neighborhood. Requirements- Experience working as a technician in a veterinary setting. (Certification preferred but not required; We have the resources to get you to the next level.)
- Proficient in anesthetic induction, surgical preparation and monitoring utilizing Midmark multiparameter monitors, patient recovery, and documentation.
- Experience in blood collection, IV catheter placement, administering vaccinations, other SQ injections, IM injections, and IV injections, veterinary pharmaceuticals and emergency procedures.
- Experience in handling and documenting the use of controlled substances to DEA standards.
- Experience caring for wounds, applying bandages, splints, and other types of protective devices.
- Experience obtaining digital radiographs using x-ray equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Interest in dental and oral healthcare and experience performing dental prophylaxis, dental radiographs, charting oral pathology, and performing a variety of dental nerve blocks.
- Ability to prepare, read, and record laboratory results including urinalysis, blood smears, intestinal parasite screenings, and cytologies.
- Ability to follow written and verbal treatment plans.
- Strong communication skills with interpersonal and client-service expertise.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends based upon the needs of our clients.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fluctuating environment.
- Competent computer skills.
- Compassion and a positive can-do attitude.
- General understanding of animal physiology and veterinary terminology and abbreviations.
- A desire for continued growth and development.
- AS, AAS or BS in Veterinary Technology (preferred)
- Appropriate state licensing, CVT with the IDFPR (preferred)
- At least two years of relevant experience working as a technician in a small-animal veterinary hospital or clinic.
