Overview
The salary range for this position is $40.25 – $60.37 hourly. Placement is dependent on relevant work experience, internal equity, and for union positions, collective bargaining rules. The Senior Cellular Therapy Scientist reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine. The role adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, complying with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities- Manufacture autologous and allogeneic cell and gene therapy products according to standard operating procedures and specific guidance for clinical trials and commercial products using aseptic technique.
- Perform manufacturing under GXP (GLP, GTP, GMP, GDP) guidelines to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct quality control testing of products and components with immunological and cell biological techniques.
- Prepare infusion products and manage product transport following established procedures.
- Accurately document processing records, generate and review reports and charts.
- Assist in inspections and audits to ensure compliance with FDA and other regulatory agencies.
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and critical equipment failures using a pager.
- Develop, optimize, validate, and verify manufacturing processes and assays for investigational new drug applications.
- Troubleshoot process and assay development issues, analyze results, and compile reports.
- Transfer technology from lab bench to clinical manufacturing.
- Perform preventative maintenance on facility and instruments, and schedule maintenance.
- Assist with equipment installation, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and performance evaluation.
- Verify reagents and supplies meet acceptability criteria, and take corrective action for unacceptable items.
- Record all necessary quality control activities, evaluate results, and take corrective actions per protocols.
- Write or assist in writing standard operating procedures.
- Review results for completeness, correctness, and consistency.
- Participate in training and competency assessments, staying current on manufacturing and analytical techniques.
- Ensure quality of operations by following SOPs, operating equipment, using computers per protocol, performing quality system responsibilities, training new personnel, attending development sessions, and performing assigned duties.
- Ensure safety of operations by following safety procedures, using PPE, maintaining a clean work area, and proactively supporting laboratory safety.
- Provide service excellence by answering calls, maintaining patient confidentiality, and assisting patients, visitors, and contacts.
- Provide technical and administrative oversight to personnel performing routine and non‑routine tests and analyses.
- Assist department management with day‑to‑day operations, monitoring service standards and financial goals.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair activities, document logs, and recommend equipment acquisitions.
- Establish user requirements for equipment purchase and qualification.
- Order lab equipment, parts, and service requests.
- Prepare, maintain, and coordinate environmental monitoring schedule.
- Participate in instrument software updates.
