11pm-7:30am Monday - Friday with alternating Saturdays.
Target Pay$18.46 an hour.
Job Purpose/OverviewThe Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing and preparing of fecal samples.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Collect fecal specimens from login, scan into loads, and prepare for set up.
- Meet all minimum department requirements for para loads and Fcombo set-up rates.
- Accurately build loads and label processing tubes.
- Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
- Find missing specimens.
- Print and reconcile queue list.
- Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
- Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.
- Maintain awareness of quality control and calibration.
- Cross‑train and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
- Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Restock supplies as needed.
- Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
- Consult with senior peers on non‑complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: attention to detail, ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment, ability to work independently and as part of a team, strong verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in English, positive, can‑do attitude.
Working Conditions- Stationary position – must remain stationary for up to 2 hours.
- Operate lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
- Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
- Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to observe details at close range.
- Extended hours may be needed.
- Laboratory environments with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory use of PPE.
- Potential exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals.
