BSD OCC – Administration. The Office of Corporate Compliance (OCC) at UChicago Medicine Health System fosters a culture of integrity, ethical behavior, and regulatory compliance across all healthcare delivery areas. Led by the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO), the OCC provides strategic oversight and comprehensive guidance for the Health System’s compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to federal and state laws and healthcare operations regulations.

It supports effective compliance practices, monitoring, risk assessment, and education, serving as a central resource for integrity and regulatory compliance throughout the organization.

The Deputy Compliance Officer is a senior operational leader in the OCC, reporting to and acting under the delegation of the CCO. This role supports the day‑to‑day management of the corporate compliance program across the Health System’s entities, directly supervises the Director of Compliance, Education, Investigation, and Outreach, and provides operational oversight of the broader compliance team. The deputy supports the CCO’s operational priorities, represents the OCC in the CCO’s absence, and leads managers who oversee regulatory compliance program activities.

The position anticipates problems, develops risk‑identification systems, and manages compliance documentation, training, committee formation, and programmatic functions.

• In partnership with the CCO, support the overall operation of the corporate compliance program, translating the annual compliance work plan into deliverables and maintaining policies, procedures, and standards across the Health System.
• Support the annual enterprise compliance risk assessment and translate its findings into the compliance work plan and monitoring priorities.
• Coordinate daily auditing and monitoring of high‑risk areas, oversee disposition of findings, and ensure corrective actions are implemented, validated, and documented to withstand external review by DOJ, OIG, CMS, HFS, and UPIC/RAC.
• Identify, quantify, and refund over payments within repayment time frames and support voluntary self‑disclosures to OIG, CMS, and state agencies in coordination with Legal.
• Serve as the OCC’s operational liaison to partner departments—including Revenue Cycle, Finance, Legal, Quality and Patient Safety, Pharmacy, Care Coordination, Health Information Management, and clinical departments—to integrate compliance standards into day‑to‑day operations.
• Provide operational compliance support to Revenue Cycle and clinical departments on billing, documentation, and coverage questions, escalating policy‑level and structural matters to the CCO.
• Oversee scope‑of‑practice and multistate‑licensure operations, including licensure exception requests and Epic‑based scheduling and practice controls that maintain clinical activity within licensed scope and reduce billing risk.
• Steward the Code of Conduct and oversee the compliance resource line, triaging reported concerns for timely investigation, resolution, and documentation and escalating significant matters to the CCO.
• Oversee the sanction‑ and exclusion‑screening program, ensuring timely screening of employees, contractors, and vendors against federal and state exclusion lists such as OIG LEIE and SAM.
• Guide the delivery of the compliance education and training program, including a centralized Universal Training Table and communication strategy that reduces fragmented training across University and Hospital systems.
• Advance consistency and standardization of compliance workflows, tools, and reporting across the Health System’s entities, supporting the CCO in program direction and execution of enterprise initiatives.
• Coordinate enterprise compliance initiatives spanning audit, risk, investigations, and conflict of interest, ensuring alignment, consistency, and timely progress across the program.
• Support delivery of the Health System’s compliance AI‑education program and the UCM AI governance committee framework.
