Safety & Environmental Specialist – S & C Electric Company
As an S & C Electric team member, you’ll work on projects that have real‑world impact, advancing a safer, more reliable and resilient electrical grid.
Hours8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Mon‑Fri) On‑site with flexibility
CompensationEstimated annual base salary range: $73,920 – $95,495. Pay within this range depends on performance, experience and education. Eligible for S & C’s annual incentive plan (AIP) subject to criteria.
Key ResponsibilitiesProvide safety & environmental guidance and support for HSE programs—including BBS, LERP, RCRA, Hazard Communication, LOTO, Confined Space, Ergonomics, PIV, industrial air and noise monitoring, sustainability and waste management, DOT, NFPA 70E and other OSHA requirements—to reduce workplace injury.
Refine existing programs and procedures to improve effectiveness and eliminate unnecessary steps. Review and update safety policies on a routine basis to ensure compliance with federal, state, local regulations and corporate standards.
Track applicable federal, state and local safety & environmental regulations and evaluate their effect on company operations.
Interface with stakeholders (Operations, technical support, etc.) to meet safety & environmental objectives and drive action items to completion.
Establish and coordinate facility audits, inspections and observations to ensure compliance. Follow‑up with Operations for corrective actions and perform audit data analysis to track trends.
Develop safety and environmental training content and delivery methods, conduct gap assessments, adjust curriculum for site‑specific needs, and deliver training via a Learning Management System.
Perform virtual and physical ergonomic assessments, using standard tools or digital human modeling, to identify and prioritize ergonomic risks and improve operator safety and efficiency.
Collaborate with S & C cross‑functional teams to drive environmental initiatives—waste reduction, reuse, recycling, resource conservation, circularity, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental, engineering, chemistry, environmental science or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated high‑level performance in safety & environmental functions with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with Enterprise EHS Management Software for injury reporting, incident investigation and action‑item tracking.
- Proficiency in incident investigation—including risk assessment, root‑cause analysis, countermeasure development and PDCA.
- Experience in areas such as Low Voltage Electrical Safety (LOTO & NFPA 70E), Electrical and Electronics Laboratories, Fire Prevention and Protection, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms or PIV.
- Ability to manage multiple safety & environmental projects simultaneously and solve technical objectives.
- Proven ability to design and deliver training.
- Willingness to travel to other S & C locations within and outside the United States.
- Experience in chemical or heavy manufacturing environments.
- Experience in data analytics and correlation analysis.
- Capability to work flexible shifts as needed.
Two to four years of experience as a Safety & Environmental professional (preferred) or equivalent engineering/manufacturing background.
Major Physical Demands- Periodic travel by car or airline to S & C locations; perform in‑person inspections and investigations in varied factory and office environments (≤5% of time).
- Standing, walking, climbing stairs, ladders, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, handling, and occasional exposure to hot or cold temperatures.
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
- Ability to travel occasionally and work non‑traditional business hours as needed.
