Laboratory Supervisor
The Laboratory Supervisor manages day‑to‑day operations of the Polymerase Reaction (PCR) lab, supervises laboratory staff, and ensures all processes comply with established protocols.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or a related field.
- Experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience with real‑time PCR instruments is a plus.
- Supervisory experience in a laboratory preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage projects and meet established deadlines.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate team members.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Carrying up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
- Standing or walking for extended periods.
- Sitting for extended periods.
- Withstanding pressure and handling emergency situations as needed.
- Average working hours with potential non‑traditional hours.
- Potential exposure to blood and body fluids.
- Perform PCR runs, analyze data, and prepare technical reports according to standard operating procedures.
- Directly supervise PCR laboratory staff.
- Train, develop, and performance‑manage staff.
- Direct supervision of all logistical processes and functions.
- Assist in establishing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and systems.
- Track and manage sample volume relative to available capacity.
- Review incident reports and perform necessary investigations within 48 hours of incident.
- Ensure maintenance of equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s directions, policy, and protocol.
- Maintain all areas in compliance with organization directives, protocols, and center policies related to infection control, exposure control, and safety issues.
- Maintain adequate supplies.
- Ensure proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with relevant directives and regulations.
- Monitor compliance of the Exposure Control Plan, including use of personal protective equipment and universal precautions.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, including identifying clinical problems and evaluating program improvements.
- Perform other related tasks to meet and exceed organizational and programmatic goals, objectives, and efficiency metrics.
- Ensure personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures.
- Plan and coordinate department efforts in process improvement activities while driving standardization of workflows.
- Effectively communicate process changes.
- Demonstrate initiative and judgment; work independently applying effective approaches to prioritization, time management, delegation, and meeting deadlines.
- Promote a work environment of accountability and ownership; set performance standards and communicate clear expectations to staff.
- Foster an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among all staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
