EHS Specialist

• Provide on-site environmental, health and safety support for the Chicago, IL locations
• Interpret federal, state and local requirements and assure compliance with regulatory obligations
• Develop localized policies and programs for site-specific safety requirements
• Investigate incidents, determine root causes, and address corrective actions
• Complete routine inspections, reports and training while maintaining required records
• Conduct hazard assessments, job safety analyses and accident investigations
• Coordinate environmental and safety-related corrective and preventive actions
• Assemble and lead an employee safety committee
• Coordinate employee exposure monitoring and medical surveillance testing
• Build relationships with employees, management and external stakeholders to support EHS initiatives
• Communicate and collaborate across the organization to foster a culture of safety
• Execute internal audits and report findings for all Synergy US locations
• Administer EHS core applications
• Draft and submit required environmental reports for all Synergy US locations
• Perform other regional support duties assigned by the EHS Manager

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or 5+ years of experience in environmental, health & safety management or a related field
• 3+ years’ experience in a manufacturing-related setting (food ingredient manufacturing preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships to collaborate effectively across departments and locations
• Knowledge of environmental, health & safety regulations at local, state and federal levels
• Flexibility to periodically work 2nd and 3rd shift to provide training and support to off-shift employees
• Capable of routine travel to sites in Wauconda, IL and Chicago, IL (expected travel 2-5 days/month)
• Detail-oriented with ability to analyze and assess situations to spot potential hazards and coordinate mitigation

Demonstrates expertise in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) management, including compliance with regulations and development of site-specific safety programs.
