JOB OVERVIEW
The Research Analyst will play an important role in advancing the ACGME's strategic mission of improving health care through its evidence-informed accreditation standards. The Research Analyst will participate in developing the evidence used in the improvement of the ACGME's standards and processes. The Research Analyst is responsible for both qualitative and quantitative research endeavors. The Research Analyst will examine data, including but not limited to managing, editing, and analyzing large data sets, remaining current with principles of conducting sound research, statistical analysis, and graduate medical education.
The Research Analyst will serve as a project coordinator, contributor, and consultant to research projects as circumstances require. The Research Analyst is a team player and will use skills in research design and data analysis to assistance others in the department as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Research Analyst will advise on the design of methodologically sound research studies alone and in collaboration with others.
- Apply scientific acumen in roles as contributing investigator, or consultant for qualitative and quantitative studies involving the ACGME's educational administrative databases and data acquired from external entities.
- Extract and make use of data from large administrative databases, survey research data, educational performance data, and similar data sets; merge data from external sources with ACGME data.
- Prepare data for analysis alone or for use by colleagues; identify and respond to aberrations in data; construct variables; edit and validate data.
- Apply skills in statistical analysis; advise department leadership and study teams on analytical approaches and designing instruments for data collection.
- Conduct systematic literature reviews, scoping reviews, and similar synthesis of knowledge.
- Analyze qualitative data, such as interview transcripts and texts of various types.
- Liaise on behalf of the department with internal and external collaborators of varying levels of expertise and organizational authority.
- Maintain documentation, such as the steps used in data quality procedures, data inventories, catalogues, codebooks, and protocols.
- As circumstances dictate, act as principal author or co-author in preparing summaries of findings to be used by ACGME Leadership for planning and evaluation purposes.
- As circumstances dictate, act as either principal author or co-author in the preparation of analyses for presentation at scientific conferences or lectures, in scholarly journals.
- Adhere to standards of responsible data stewardship and ACGME data governance policies.
- Provide staff support to research working groups and committees.
- Keep departmental leadership properly informed of work.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
- Master's degree from an accredited university in education, economics, public health, psychology, political science, or a related field, including at least two graduate-level courses in statistics.
- Three or more years of related career experience compiling, cleaning, editing, and analyzing data.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods and application.
- A doctoral degree from an accredited university in a relevant field.
- Experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience presenting research findings to scientific assemblies.
- Expertise in merging and appending data sets from numerous sources.
- Proficiency writing commands in SQL, Python, Stata, or R for data preparation purposes (i.e., retrieval, merger, audit).
- Competence using statistical software.
- Demonstrated skills in performing descriptive statistical analysis, such as frequencies, precents, cross-tabulations, and tests of statistical significance without supervision.
- Ability to perform regression and hierarchical analysis with minimal supervision.
- Ability to design research studies.
- Ability to articulate oneself clearly and concisely in the English language.
- Ability to construct images, graphs, and tables to explain meaning of data.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
